What is Specialised Independent Living

Overview

Specialised Independent Living (SIL) is support for people with disability who need help with daily tasks to live as independently as possible in their own home or shared accommodation.

What Specialised Independent Living may include

  • Personal care assistance like showering, dressing, and grooming
  • Meal planning, preparation, and cooking support
  • Household tasks including cleaning, laundry, and maintenance
  • Medication management and health monitoring
  • Social and community participation activities
  • Development of life skills and independence training

Purpose and benefits

SIL helps people with disability maintain their independence while ensuring they receive the support they need for daily living. It focuses on building skills and confidence so people can participate fully in their community and live the life they choose.

Connection to support services

Specialised Independent Living often works alongside other disability supports to create a comprehensive care approach. This might include allied health services, transport assistance, and community participation programs that all work together to support your independence goals.
