The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) has received the final report from Dr Stephen Duckett, which reviews the status of music and art therapy under the NDIS. This report is part of a broader effort to clarify how these therapies are treated and funded through NDIS plans.
The NDIA will now consider the report’s recommendations and use them to update its operational guidance for decision-makers. These changes will also be reflected in future versions of the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits.
What’s Changing?
While updates are expected, no immediate changes have been made. Until the new guidance is officially released later this year, the current status of music and art therapy as NDIS supports remains unchanged.
What to Expect
The NDIA has confirmed that it will:
- Publish the full report from Dr Duckett
- Provide an official Agency response to the report
- Release updated operational guidance
- Offer accessible formats, including Easy Read and Auslan versions
This means participants, providers, and Support Coordinators will have access to the same information in formats that suit a wide range of needs.
What Should You Do Now?
There’s no action required at this time. If you or someone you support currently accesses music or art therapy through the NDIS, your plan remains unaffected. Angels on Wheels will continue to monitor this update and share important changes as they are released.
