The NDIS has announced that from 18 June, extra checks will be applied to older claims submitted by registered providers. The aim is to make sure claims are accurate, properly supported, and submitted in a timely way. Submitting claims sooner after delivering a support means providers get paid faster and reduces the risk of fraud, mistakes, and rejected claims.

Which Claims Will Be Checked First

The extra checks will start with claims submitted more than 12 months after a support was delivered. These older claims will be reviewed to confirm they are for NDIS supports, and that they include the right evidence and information.

Checks Will Expand to More Recent Claims Over Time

Over the coming months, the checks will gradually extend to more recent claims. This will include claims submitted 6 months or more after a support is delivered. Providers should expect this expanded review to roll out progressively.

What Happens While a Claim Is Being Checked

Claims may be held for up to 28 days while the checks are completed. If more information is needed, an email will be sent to the Active Primary Contact and Head Office Contact listed on the provider’s record. If a claim is rejected, the provider will be told the reason why.

Improvements to the Claim and Payment Enquiry Process

Alongside the extra checks, the claim and payment enquiry process for registered providers has also been improved. When lodging a new enquiry in the my NDIS provider portal, providers can now link it directly to the claim or claims they are asking about. This removes the need to manually search for and enter claim details, and makes it easier for NDIS staff to process the enquiry. Providers can link up to 80 claims to a single enquiry. This applies to enquiries about rejected claims, payments not received, and issues cancelling claims.
