From 1 July 2026, providers delivering Supported Independent Living (SIL) or NDIS digital platform services will need to begin the registration process with the NDIS Commission.

These changes are designed to strengthen safety, quality and accountability across SIL supports, helping participants and families feel more confident about the services they receive.

What is changing?

All SIL providers must meet the new SIL Practice Standards from 1 July 2026.

If an unregistered provider is already delivering SIL or NDIS digital platform services before 1 July 2026, they must apply for registration by 1 October 2026 if they wish to continue providing these supports.

New providers entering the SIL or NDIS digital platform market after 1 July 2026 must be registered before delivering these services.

Providers who are already registered do not need to take action. The NDIS Commission will update their registration details and issue a new certificate.

There will also be changes to claims and payments for some providers from 1 July 2026.

What this means for participants and families

For participants receiving Supported Independent Living, these changes may provide greater peace of mind around the quality and safety of daily supports.

If your current provider chooses not to register, they must let you know as soon as possible so you have time to explore other registered provider options.

Participants and families are encouraged to ask their provider whether they are registered or planning to register, especially if they currently receive SIL or accommodation-based supports.

How this relates to Angels on Wheels

At Angels on Wheels, our Specialised Independent Living services are designed to support participants who want to live with greater independence while still receiving the right level of care, structure and day-to-day assistance.

Our SIL supports can include personalised care plans, skill development, safe and comfortable accommodation, community access, social participation, health and wellbeing support, and 24/7 assistance from trained staff.

We understand that choosing a SIL provider is an important decision. Participants and families need to feel confident that support is delivered safely, respectfully and in line with NDIS quality standards.

Whether you are exploring SIL for the first time or reviewing your current support arrangements, our team can help you understand your options and discuss what level of support may suit your needs.

Provider exits

If a provider decides not to register, they must inform participants as soon as possible. This gives participants, families and support coordinators time to plan ahead and find a registered provider where needed.

Where to go for help

Support and resources are available through the NDIS Commission Reform Hub.
