What is Medium-Term Accommodation?
Medium-Term Accommodation (MTA) provides temporary housing when you cannot yet move into your long-term home because your disability-related supports, equipment or home modifications are not ready. It is not intended to replace permanent housing or provide emergency accommodation.
Who is Medium-Term Accommodation suitable for?
MTA may be suitable if you have a long-term living arrangement planned but cannot move in yet, and you are unable to remain in your current accommodation. It may also support eligible participants transitioning from hospital or another care setting into a more permanent home.
How long can someone stay in Medium-Term Accommodation?
The NDIS generally funds MTA for up to 90 days. A longer stay may be considered in limited circumstances when there is evidence that your long-term accommodation or disability-related supports will take additional time to become ready.
What is included during a Medium-Term Accommodation stay?
Your stay may include a safe and comfortable place to live, along with personalised support based on your individual needs. Before your stay begins, our team will explain what is included and discuss any additional arrangements you may require.
Is Medium-Term Accommodation fully supported?
Support can be arranged according to your individual needs. This may include assistance with personal care, daily routines, meals, household tasks and community participation.
Can Medium-Term Accommodation be arranged at short notice?
Availability will depend on your approved funding, accommodation vacancies and whether the property can safely meet your needs. MTA is not emergency housing, so it is best to begin planning as early as possible with your support coordinator or my NDIS contact.
Is the accommodation suitable for different mobility needs?
Accommodation options can be considered according to your mobility, accessibility and support requirements. Before confirming a stay, our team will discuss your needs and help determine whether the available property, facilities and support arrangements are suitable.
Can family or carers remain involved during the stay?
Yes. Family members, carers and other important people can remain involved according to your preferences. They may assist with planning, visits, decision-making and preparing for your move into long-term accommodation.
